Tree Farm

- Nagano, JAPAN, 2017

This photo series is taken since a forest, which was a playground when I was little, is no longer a forest due to felling.

At the beginning of this felling, I was concerned that houses or facilities might be built here because felling has been done for estate development nearby this forest in recent years. However, it was actually arranged to obtain wood in a cycle of about once every 20 years. While I was relieved that it was not for estate development, I was slightly shocked to realize that this forest, which I thought was a symbol of nature, was a forestry area managed for timber production. However, timber is an important resource for Japan, and considering that many forests were lost whole Japan in the past, it can be considered a form of coexistence between humans and nature.

Then I started shooting while imagining that I can see the forest again 20 years later.
